CIMA's president, Aubrey Joachim, writes that the profession needs to demonstrate that it welcomes all comers (In business, September). I will make no comment on the other CCAB members, but CIMA has certainly never expressed any concern about my background.

Many people are surprised to hear that I'm now an accountant, given my start in life. At the age of six I was diagnosed with epilepsy. The illness had the potential to disrupt my education, so I spent two years at a special-needs school in a bid to ensure that I didn't fall behind.
