Optimism at low ebb in worldwide survey.

A survey of 600 senior management accountants from around the world has found only a small increase in optimism for the global economy over the next 12 months.

The research, which was carried out by CIMA and the AICPA, showed the overall global economy index score rose from 58 to 65 (on a scale of 0 to 100-50 being considered neutral, while numbers above that are considered positive).

The methodology comprises ten different factors, such as revenue, profits and head count, but when the global economy alone is considered, just 18 per cent of respondents expressed optimism. Broken down, 20 per cent of UK respondents expressed optimism, down to a low of 10 per cent in the "rest of the world developed" category.
