Scottish engineering firm Orbital Marine Power has announced that its O2 turbine has started powering the grid.

Dubbed the 'World's most powerful tidal turbine,' O2 weighs 680 metric tons and is 74 metres long. It has now started grid-connected power generation at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, Scotland. The development is considered to be a major step for the nascent marine energy sector in the UK.
