Most very early spring flowers are white (snowdrops) or yellow (dwarf daffs), but when a splash of shocking magenta-pink is in order, choose hardy cyclamen

Cyclamen coum starts flowering now and goes on until mid-March. It's a little star, having typical cyclamen blooms with swept-back petals. They look best grown as a carpet in front of shrubs or in raised beds and rock features.

They are fine for conventional beds but not where you'll want to use a hoe, since the tubers sit just above...
