POLICE

The Police (Scotland) Amendment (No.2) Regulations 1988

Made 19th December 1988

Laid before Parliament 11th January 1989

Coming into force 1st February 1989

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 26 of the Police (Scotland) Act 19671and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after taking into consideration the recommendations made by the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom and furnishing the said Board with a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 2(1) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 19802, hereby makes the following Regulations:

S-1 Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Scotland) Amendment (No.2) Regulations 1988.

S-2 Commencement

2. These Regulations shall come into force on 1st February 1989 and shall have effect for the purposes of regulation 4 as from 1st July 1987 and from 1st July 1988 and of regulations 5 and 6 as from 1st September 1988.

S-3 Interpretation

3. In these Regulations any reference to “the principal Regulations” is a reference to the Police (Scotland) Regulations 1976 3.

4. In paragraph 3(2) of Schedule 9 to the principal Regulations (university scholars) there shall be inserted after the words “rate of” and in place of the words “£945 a year” the words “£1,017 a year with effect from 1st July 1987 and the rate of £1,089 a year with effect from 1st July 1988.”.

S-5 Scales of pay

5. In Schedule 3 to the principal Regulations (scales of pay) for Tables A and B there shall be substituted respectively Tables A and B set out in the Schedule to these Regulations, in paragraph 2(2) there shall be inserted after the words “became a constable” the words “on or before 31st August 1988” and after paragraph 2(2) there shall be inserted the following sub-paragraphs:—

“2A In the case of a constable who first became a constable after 31st August 1988 and after he had attained the age of 22 years, his annual pay during the period which ends on 31st August 1989 shall be £10,512 and during the remainder of the period before he completes 2 years of reckonable service shall be determined in accordance with Table B as if at all times during the latter period he had two years' reckonable service.

2B In the case of a constable who became a constable after 31st August 1988 and before he had attained the age of 22 years, his annual pay during the period which ends on 31st August 1989 shall be £8,352.”.

S-6 Dog handler’s allowance

6. In paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 10 to the principal Regulations (dog handler’s allowance) for the sums “£612” and “£831” there shall be substituted the sums “£663” and “£903” respectively.

S-7 Revocations

Revocations

7. The Regulations specified in column 1 of Schedule 2 to these Regulations are revoked to the extent specified in column 3 of that Schedule.
