The Potassium Bromate (Prohibition as a Flour Improver) Regulations 1990

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Health and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 4, 7 and 118 of the Food Act 19841and now vested in them2and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations, after consultation in accordance with section 118(6) of the said Act with such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests substantially affected by the said Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Potassium Bromate (Prohibition as a Flour Improver) Regulations 1990 and shall come into force on 1st April 1990.

S-2 Amendment of the Miscellaneous Additives in Food Regulations 1980 and the Bread and Flour Regulations 1984

Amendment of the Miscellaneous Additives in Food Regulations 1980 and the Bread and Flour Regulations 1984

2.—(1) The Miscellaneous Additives in Food Regulations 19803shall be further amended by deleting—

(a)

(a) from Parts I and II of Schedule 1 thereto the items relating to Potassium bromate; and

(b)

(b) in Schedule 2 thereto, in respect of the items relating to “Bread” and “Flour” the references in column 2 (Permitted Miscellaneous Additive) to Potassium bromate.

(2) The Bread and Flour Regulations 19844shall be further amended by deleting—

(a)

(a) from Schedule 3 thereto the item relating to 924 Potassium bromate; and

(b)

(b) from paragraph 6 of Schedule 6 thereto—

(i) in sub-paragraphs (2)(b) and (3)(b) the items relating to Potassium bromate; and

(ii) in sub-paragraph (4)(a) and (b) the references in column 2 (Permitted Miscellaneous Additive) to Potassium bromate.
