Preface to the Second Edition

Firstly, thank you to all the people who bought the first edition of this book in such numbers that the publishers asked us to do a second edition. We have incorporated as many of your suggestions and comments as possible.

We have extensively revised this edition taking account of the comments, corrections made by our readers, and the developments in law and practice over the last 5 years. We have retained as much of the original text as we can but updated it so that readers can see what we originally said and what we now say. For example, we have retained the original predictions for mediation given by Professor Dominic Regan in 2012 and commented on how accurate they have turned out to be.

As we pointed out in the Preface to the First Edition, The Jackson ADR Handbook had been published too late for us to incorporate it in our text. Since then, the Handbook has moved to a second edition, has been cited on more than one occasion with approval by the court and has had an increasingly important effect on...
