I'm sure that the "So you want to be ..." article in the previous issue will have inspired a number of CIMA members to investigate whether a career in interim management is for them. This option--especially the indicative earnings--seems attractive, but there are some cautions needed before anyone plunges into this exciting world.

First, while you may like facing challenges, it's important to note that the institute's code of ethics counsels that you should not exceed your competence. CIMA Professional Development,--and not just on-the-job learning --may be required to prepare you adequately for the new tasks you may face in an interim role.

Second, if you enter the interim field as an independent manager rather than going through an interim provider, and live or work in the UK, you are providing services that fall within the categories listed in the Money Laundering Regulations 2007 as a "trust and company service provider".
