The first quarter of 2008 is already providing plenty of evidence to show that CIMA remains the most relevant financial qualification for business recognised around the world.
For example, we are experiencing increasing demand for CIMA training across central and eastern Europe, southern Africa and India. The demand is coming from both the public sector and all parts of the private sector. This growth is reflected across numerous emerging economies.
The burgeoning popularity of the CIMA qualification in the Bric countries and other fast-developing economies is primarily driven by employers who want to broaden the skills of their finance professionals beyond traditional accounting capabilities. As we know, the transformation of finance in large companies around the world is fuelling the need for business partners with the skills to create value. The increasing number of organisations offering CIMA training in numerous countries is a clear sign of that shift in policy.
The growth of multinational financial shared-service centres, arising from globalisation and the transformation of the finance function, is driving the ongoing need for consistency of skill, application and quality in English, the international language of business. Organisations require confidence in their ability to be able to move work around the world, ensuring consistent levels of competency as well as the ability to focus on high-end value-creating activities.
Our qualification framework is seen as highly flexible in meeting all those requirements. The entry-level CIMA certificate in business accounting is used in many organisations as a common starting point for new finance employees before they move on to the professional components of their training, for example.
