Cast your minds back to when the Shergar Cup popped up from nowhere. That was the one weekend of the summer when you wanted to be invited to some wedding, a christening, anything. Embarrassing to begin with, organisers have worked wonders to turn it around. Now look at it.

The Racing League faces challenges. This is a sport not designed for a team structure and might never be. The Shergar Cup works because it's short, snappy, and unique. A one-dayer with a refreshingly different cast.

It is early days and the concept can develop. In search of some widespread feedback, it was apparent that many questioned the role of the 'managers'. I hear you, folks.

Their exact duty in proceedings is crystal clear, and that is to annoy the living daylights out of everyone. Bouncing around high-fiving in the winner's circle is all so glaringly false. Nobody likes false. It made for excruciating viewing.
