The Rating of Minor Structural Alterations to Dwellings (Specified Amount) Order 1974

The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of his powers under section 21(1)(b) of the Local Government Act 1974 (a) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:—

1. This order may be cited as the Rating of Minor Structural Alterations to Dwellings (Specified Amount) Order 1974 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1974.

2. The Interpretation Act 1889 (b) shall apply for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

3. The amount specified for the purposes of section 21(1)(b) of the Local Government Act 1974 is £30.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

Section 21 of the Local Government Act 1974 makes special provision with respect to the alteration of valuation lists on or after 1st April 1974 on account of minor structural alterations to dwellings or mixed hereditaments within the meaning of section 48 of the General Rate Act 1967 (c.9). In a case other than one to which section 21 (1) (a) applies (central heating installations), section 21(1) (b) of the Act of 1974 provides that no proposal for an alteration may be made if the proposal would be for an increase not exceeding such amount as the Secretary of State may by Order specify. The Order specifies an amount of £30.
