This
book,
which is one in the
"Social

author
states in her preface
"about
the
relationship
between
parents
and
their
children
and
what
can
go
wrong
with it."
It is a
wideranging
work, covering
not
only
criminal
law
and
procedures
in
relation to children,
but
also civil law.
It
is divided
into
four

Part

unit
which
has
broken

and
the various
procedures
by which the children of the
marriage
can
be
cared
for
after
the
breakdown.
Part
II
also
contains
that
section of the
book
of most specific
interest to the police officer, dealing with
all aspects
regarding
the juvenile
offender
and
his
treatment,
and
with
child abuse.
The
author
goes
into
great
detail when discussing
care
proceedings,
"place
of safety" powers, etc.,
explaining
not
only the police aspect, but also the
powers
and
the
problems
of the
other
"caring
agencies".
Part
III
deals with the law
and
children
in the
care
of
unmarried
parents,
guardians,
foster parents,
step-parents,
local
authorities,
etc.,
and
Part
IV

adoption.

Obviously, as a result. it is not
cheap
but
Iwould
think
part
of any year's

Unfortunately,
we
cannot
make
it

our
