Reopening Everton library ‘vital’ to regeneration of community

Outside, Polly Moseley is shepherding guests over to the nearby St George’s church where deputy mayor and Everton councillor Jane Corbett is officially opening a day of activity marking the library’s 125 year history and a new project which will see it reopened to the public.
Ms Moseley, a producer and researcher behind Pollyport CIC, is one of the key figures spearheading the transformational project that would deliver a multi-purpose community hub with aims of maintaining the iconic structure for another 125 years.
Speaking to ECHO at the event, which took place on Saturday, Ms Moseley said: “The campaign to reopen the library is based around the skills and jobs that are really needed in neighbourhoods like this.
“Hundreds of thousands of people pass by this building, and it's in a state of civic neglect at the moment.
“It needs to be transformed into something more positive.
“The regeneration of Everton Library is vital to the community. It certainly needs to be a feeling of pride rather than sadness or frustration when people go past it.”
As part of a community led project, the transformation would see Everton Library reopen as a technical institute which, according to the project’s mission statement, would provide a public space, create employment and make a contribution to the regional, circular economy.
These aims would be partially delivered through the opening of a café, creative workspaces and a family research unit for locals known as ‘the lost tribe of Everton’.
