RECOVERY
Trust, desi gned around the nee ds highligh ted by t he
service use r in the ir initial application . A volu me
of support is made available to the participant
during thei r placement that in cludes supe rvision
on a mon thly basis, access to all t he training that is
available t o paid m embers of staff, co ntact with their
care co-ord inator for any clin ical needs that mig ht
arise durin g the pl acement and also co ntact with the
social incl usion proje ct manager for any managerial
needs. Plac ements can last for 12–18 m onths and
a combinati on of pl acements ca n be arr anged to
achieve the amount of hours required a t various
Trust sites , and ca n also i nclude plac ement with
external/partn er organisa tions.
Volunteering and recovery
Volunteering at Oxleas Foundation NHS Trust is
divided into two sub-sections: mainstream and
volunteer to work (V2W). Mainstream volunteering
means that anybody – such as a member of the
public, ex-service user, carer, friend or relative
of someone accessing Oxleas services – can get
involved. The V2W scheme is specifically designed
for current Oxleas service users who have a clinical
care co-ordinator.
The aim of the V 2W scheme is to give enhan ced
support to get serv ice users back into full or
part-time p aid employm ent, depend ing on t he
individual’s choice. I t is des igned in such a way
that Oxleas offers work placem ents within the

Abstract
This article describes ResearchNet, a project based within the Oxleas Foundation NHS Trust that involves
service users and carers in research as a means of supporting recovery. A key element of their approach to
service user and carer research is to combine volunteering and network building.
