Learning difficulties and disabilities practical guidance
for justice system practitioners
LDD Navigator is a website that provides information and resources for learning
difficulties and disabilities and the justice system. The website was designed and
built by a consortium of three charities: British Institute of Learning Disabilities;
Dyslexia Action; and National Autistic Society, and commissioned by NOMS.
There is a very useful page on the labels for the range of learning needs and
behaviours, for example ADHD, and dyspraxia. The site provides a wealth of
resources to assist with working with individuals with learning difficulties and dis-
abilities, including the following: behaviours you might notice that are causing
difficulties, and strategies of how to help; practical strategies for ways to give
instructions; resource documents providing guidance about how to work with dif-
ferent learning needs; ‘Easy Read’ documents that present information in pictures
and simple words to make it easier to understand; also, best practice examples are
listed from prisons in England. The site is exceptionally well organised and pre-
sented, drawing on the strategies that assist with making information easy to

Sexual offending and specialist training and therapy
services
StopSO is a charity providing specialist training for working to prevent sexual
offending. It works with those at risk of harmful sexual behaviour to enable them to
stop acting out, and so reducing the risk to society and potential victims. The
