Help with reducing the isolation of those bereaved
by suicide
The Health Talk website has a film library showing 40 people from across the
country talking about their experience of being bereaved by suicide. Their stories
can help people who have been bereaved by suicide feel less isolated and show
how other people have responded to their bereavement. The videos are personal
experiences that cover issues such as finding out about the bereavement, telling
others, the inquest, support from family and friends, and adjusting to life after the
person has died. The videos are also categorised into experiences at different
stages of the bereavement and the person who has been lost, parent, child, sibling,
friend, and so on. The website also has a resources page that provides link to other
support services for those who have been bereaved by suicide. Website: http://

Academic Insights for probation and youth justice
HMI Probation has started commissioning lead academics to distil their views in
short accessible pieces. The purpose of these Academic Insights is to aid informing
debate and support understanding of what helps and what hinders probation and
youth justice services. Topics include reconciling desistance with what works, Eur-
opean Probation rules, and a resettlement model. The pieces are written by leading
academics from the field of the specific topic. The papers are short documents and
capture the evidence base for work within probation and youth justice. The Aca-
demic Insights can be accessed at: https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmi
