The Wolves loanee was thrown straight into the action for Saturday's eventful 0-0 draw with Dundee United, with the midfielder starting just his first game in four months since suffering a broken metatarsal. And, while the Irishman revealed he wishes the game had been a little less frenetic for the sake of his lungs, the 23-year-old was glad to get more than an hour's worth of action in the tank as he settles into life in Paisley.

He told Express Sport: "It was tough physically as that was my first game back from injury.

"My first training session was only last Monday, so it's obviously a positive sign that the manager trusts me to put me in this early. I feel that I repaid him for that with the time I was on the pitch.

"I started to feel a little bit leggy and tired at times, but you can only get that fitness from playing games and I'm glad I've got those minutes under my belt now.

"It was a very open game and could have gone either way. They had the better chances in the first half and we got a bit more on top in the second half. A draw was probably a fair result.

"It was very open, which probably didn't help the lungs. But that's all in the bank now.

"In the first five to ten minutes, I was just trying to feel my way into the game. I didn't get on the ball as much as I would have liked, but the main thing for me was just to get fitness in my legs."

Ronan revealed he only just recovered in time from his painful injury, sustained during his loan spell at Swiss side Grasshopper last season, to beat the transfer deadline and join the Buddies.
