An Act for lighting with Gas Bacup, Waterfoot,
Newchurch, Rawtenstail, Crawshaw Booth, and
other Places in the Forest of Rossendale in
[2d June 1854.]
Lancashire.
HE RE AS there are in the ancient Forest of Rossendale in
Lancashire many manufacturing Places, which are rapidly
increasing in Population, and are now insufficiently lighted,
and a Company has been formed under the Style of " The
Rossendale
Gas
Company" for supplying with Gas the Inhabitants of the said District: And
whereas a Company for supplying the Town of Bacup in Rossendale with
Gas was formed in the Year 1835, and has since that Time lighted the said
Town, and the same Company was completely registered on the 8th Day of
September 1853, by the Style of "The JBacup Gaslight, and Coke Com-
pany," in pursuance of the Provisions of an Act passed in the Session of
Parliament held in the Seventh and Eighth Years of Her present
Majesty's Reign, intituled An Act for the Registration, Incorporation, 7 &S Vict,

October
1853, an Agreement was entered into between the Two Companies
for uniting the Undertaking of the
JBacup
Gaslight and Coke Company with
the Undertaking of the Rossendale Gas Company, upon the Condition
that the Shareholders in the first-named Company should receive the
Value of their existing Works, Property, and Effects, amounting to the
