The Royal Collection includes items previously worn by William and Prince Harry's late mother Princess Diana.

Writing in his latest MailOnline column, royal commentator Dan Wootton said: "I've learned senior staff working for the Queen had shared with William their reservations about some of Meghan's behaviour.

"William is believed to have backed a decision – approved by the Queen – to ban Meghan from borrowing items in the Royal Collection, including tiaras and jewellery once worn by his mother Princess Diana."

In November 2018, it was reported that the Queen warned Harry about Meghan's behaviour following a row ahead of their royal wedding over the tiara she would wear.

When the bride was told she was not able to wear her first choice of headpiece, Harry reportedly shouted at staff: “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”

Meghan ended up wearing the Queen Mary diamond bandeau tiara for her wedding.

The Sussexes are now living in America after quitting royal duties - a move dubbed Megxit - in March 2020.

6.10pm update: Meghan and Harry blasted over 'manipulated, contrived' leak on Kate and Wills anniversary

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have accused of "contrived" behaviour after a leak revealed they sent a message congratulating the Cambridges' on their 10th wedding anniversary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who split from the main Royal Family, didn’t issue a public statement on William and Kate's anniversary.

However, The Daily Beast was briefed the couple had “privately congratulated” William and Kate.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry later confirmed the message had been sent.

The couple were criticised by royal experts who suggested the leak may have come from their team.

Speaking to The Sun royal author Phil Dampier said: “The Queen and Prince Charles made their messages of congratulations to William and Kate on their tenth anniversary in public so why didn’t Harry and Meghan?

“Instead they relied on their spokespeople leaking out the fact they sent a message, making it look manipulated and contrived.”

5.35pm update: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shot themselves in foot by 'wanting everything instantly'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shot themselves in the foot by jumping into their duties as working royals too quickly and wanting to do everything at once, according to a royal expert.

Pod Save the Queen is hosted by Ann Gripper and features Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers.

Mr Myers said: “When you look at the 10-year period, and certainly Kate didn't want to rush into the job and certainly she didn’t, because it's taken her this amount of time to really get to grips with those major issues.

“Let's look at the Back to Nature project, the early years development, the issues with baby banks…

“Things that will have societal change and maybe not instantly, maybe not 10 years, but will over the course of her royal life, maybe a generation or two that she’s laid the foundations for.

“And I think that was always the key, there was never any pressure on her to jump into things.

“And perhaps, playing devil’s advocate, on the other side, that’s perhaps where Harry and Meghan went wrong, because they just wanted to do everything straight away.

“They were asking questions why they couldn't do this, that and the other and they wanted to do everything very, very instantly and so that’s why they’ve gone their own way."
