Among the younger members of the family it also poses issues, and in an evolving and modernising royal family it could even cause some issues if one child has to follow a rule but other don't. This is exactly the situation for young princes George, 9, and Louis, 5. The two sons of Prince William and Kate Middleton have a four year age gap between them, and the monarchy has changed a lot in recent years

You may have read before about how Prince George, just like his dad, uncle and grandad before him, was forced to wear shorts at all times when out in public, even in cold weather when he would be given long socks to keep warm. This dates back to a royal tradition for young princes and usually continues until the age of around five or six.

Many will have expected young Louis to be made to follow the same rule as his older brother did, but it would appear that the youngest Cambridge child has been let off the hook with this impractical tradition, having been seen out and about in trousers several times.

This includes while joining his mum, dad, and siblings on red carpet events, and even in the Cambridge family Christmas photo, perhaps the most widely shared image of the family that they publish each year.
