Royal Family: The reason why Prince William never actually wears his wedding ring after marrying Kate Middleton

Prince William does not wear a wedding ring. This is not due to a royal tradition or requirement. The Duke simply does not like wearing jewellery

Before the royal wedding in 2011, a Palace aide explained why the groom would be going ring-free: "He’s not one for jewellery. He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference."

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton typically wears three rings day to day. The most famous of these is her engagement ring. The 12-carat sapphire was previously given to Princess Diana by Prince Charles when they became engaged.

In addition to her engagement ring, Kate likes to wear her wedding band and eternity ring. The wedding band is made from Welsh gold in keeping with royal tradition. The 18-carat white gold eclipse diamond eternity ring is thought to have been a gift from Prince William after the couple's first child Prince George was born.
