The bulk of this book involves consideration of sixteen judgments in cases heard by the Scottish courts, re-examined by an author (in some cases joint authors) substituting for the role of a judge in the original case and composing a replacement judgment through a feminist lens. Judgment writers could call upon new evidence, but only if that could have been obtained at the time of the original case. The new judgment may or may not lead to an outcome different from the original judgment or case. Each chapter also contains commentary from a third party, and, as a distinctive development of the Scottish project, a reflective statement by the judgment author after considering the commentary.

This book is the substantial published output of a project of thirty-three contributors in Scotland, of whom three are the project leads and editors, but building upon the knowledge and expertise that has accumulated through prior Feminist Judgment projects (FJPs) adopting a similar model conducted around the world.
