Kingholm lost the toss and Caldbeck decided to bat first. This gave the opportunity for Mikey Turner and Liam McGowan to open the bowing and try to put pressure on the Caldbeck openers.

The first seven overs of the game were where Kingholm were on top not conceding many runs and the bowlers keeping it fairly tight. The pressure that Kingholm built led to the first wicket of the game that was picked up by Liam McGowan.

Kingholm continued their efforts but couldn't find another breakthrough after the second wicket which was picked up by Mike Lumb.

At the drinks break, Rory Macleod and Connor Bowie were introduced. They were able to pick up seven wickets between them at the expense of some runs and Mike Lumb's knee. However, in the last seven overs the Caldbeck batsmen started playing their shots and were able to finish strong despite some excellent bowling from young Kevin Rayan who was unfortunate not to pick up a hatful himself.

At the end of the Caldbeck innings they were 148/9. A very good fielding performance from saints and very promising start to the season in that department.

Kingholm started off the batting performance looking at an achievable target for the side. The opening pair of Kevin Rayan and Mike Lumb looked to be going steady but a few wickets started to fall and a collapse at the front order didn't help.

A partnership formed between Matthew Moss and Ian Naysmith, however, putting Saints right back in the picture. It took a fantastic piece of fielding at cover from Caldbeck to break the partnership with Naysmith the unfortunate run out victim.

Moss and Bowie put on another 30, however, after Bowie snicked off, the wickets fell quickly, leaving Kingholm 103 all out.

Caldbeck won the game by 45 runs. Overall a very promising start to the season for the young Saints team in their first competitive game in almost two years.

The club would like to thank Caldbeck for travelling and for another enjoyable game of cricket.

The man of the match award went to Rory Mcleod for his excellent bowling spell and fielding effort.
