The Standing Civilian Courts (Areas) (Amendment) Order 1991

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 6(3) and 22(4) of the Armed Forces Act 19761and with the approval of the Lord Chancellor, hereby makes the following Order:

S-1 Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Standing Civilian Courts (Areas) (Amendment) Order 1991 and shall come into force on 1st January 1992.

(2) In this Order “the principal Order” means the Standing Civilian Courts (Areas) Order 19772.

2. In the Schedule to the principal Order, in Area 2, the word “Berlin” shall be deleted and there shall be substituted the words “The Republic of Cyprus and the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekhelia”.

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Standing Civilian Courts (Areas) Order 1977 (S.I. 1977/89) by removing Berlin from the areas specified as those for which trials may be directed to be held before Standing Civilian Courts of civilians subject to the Army Act 1955 (c. 18)or the Air Force Act 1955 (c. 19), for offences committed in that area or elsewhere.

The Order also adds the Republic of Cyprus and the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekhelia as such an area.
