A virtual careers event is taking place next week to help those looking for an apprenticeship in Northumberland.

Northumberland County Council are one of the biggest employers in the county and offer a huge range of different apprenticeships, with opportunities across many different departments.

Apprentices can earn while they learn and have access to amazing opportunities, including high level apprenticeships and job specific training.

This will be the second cohort of apprentices recruited by the council this year, with 18 apprentices joining the work force in February and even more set to join in September.

The recent recruits aren't making tea and photocopies they're getting practical hands-on training.

A great example is Hannah Young, a level 2 Horticulture and Landscape apprentice, who loves her hands-on role: "There's a lot of learning opportunities and a lot of career progression which was the main thing I looked for in an apprenticeship.

I really like working at the council, being a woman in a very male-orientated industry, it was quite daunting at first, but the team have made me feel really welcome, I feel very excited to be in a manual role as a woman.

All council apprentices have a pathway into a full-time role or further training, with dedicated support. The council is running three career sessions next week and you need to register for a place. There will be opportunities to watch webinars, browse the different types of apprenticeships available, and ask questions to current apprentices and managers.
