Hannah Richardson opened the Clayton Road store, in Jesmond, in December having originally launched her baking business five years ago from her home in Corbridge.

The 29-year-old, who gave up an office job to start her business, said: "I was miserable, but I started baking, and it brought me genuine joy.

"There were points during lockdown when I didn't know if I'd be able to keep going, but I worked hard to come up with new recipes to make sure business didn't fizzle."

Hannah transformed what was a womenswear shop by putting in a new ceiling, tiling and some artistic finishing touches.

"The renovation was incredibly hard work," she said. "I've never done anything like this before, so it was daunting making all those decisions. "However, it's turned out exactly as I hoped. I absolutely love it, and it's such a step-up from working at home.

"Baking is my happy place, so I had a vision of making the shop a lovely place...
