PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION OF TERRORISM

The Terrorism Act 2000 (Proscribed Organisations) (Amendment) Order 2002

Made 31th October 2002

Coming into force 1st November 2002

Whereas the Secretary of State believes that the organisations set out in article 2 of the following Order are concerned in terrorism;

And whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament;

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3(3)(a) and (c) of the Terrorism Act 20001, hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Terrorism Act 2000 (Proscribed Organisations) (Amendment) Order 2002 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

2. The following organisations are hereby added to Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 20002.

Asbat Al-Ansar

Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan

Jemaah Islamiyah.

S-3 Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000 shall be amended by adding...

3. Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000 shall be amended by adding at the end of the note to the Schedule the words:

“The entry for Jemaah Islamiyah refers to the organisation using that name that is based in south-east Asia, members of which were arrested by the Singapore authorities in December 2001 in connection with a plot to attack US and other Western targets in Singapore.”.

This Order adds the organisations mentioned in article 2 to the list of proscribed organisations in Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000. Article 3 adds a note to Schedule 2 providing that the fourth organisation listed is the organisation of that name that is based in south-east Asia, members of which were arrested by the Singapore authorities in December 2001 in connection with a plot to attack US and other Western targets in Singapore.


(1) 2000 c. 11; by virtue of section 3(4), the power in section 3(3)(a) may be exercised only in respect of an organisation that the Secretary of State believes to be concerned in terrorism.
