Instead, the experienced Premier League whistle-blower waved away Ronaldo's protests, signalling play on, whilst VAR had a close look at the incident.

There was a little bit of contact between the pair, that cannot be denied, but VAR deemed it not strong enough to be worth a penalty, something Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was in agreement with.
