The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Duxford) Regulations 2017

The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of Duxford, Cambridgeshire by reason of the holding of flying displays that are scheduled to take place there.

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016( 1).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Duxford) Regulations 2017 and come into force on 27th May 2017.

Interpretation

2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time( 2).

Restricted airspace

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), between 1200 hours and 1700 hours on each of the following days—

(a) 27th and 28th May 2017,

(b) 8th and 9th July 2017, and

(c) 23rd and 24th September 2017,

no aircraft is to fly below 4,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a circle having a radius of 2.2 nautical miles whose centre is at 520539N 0000753E.

(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying with the permission of the flying display director at Duxford Aerodrome.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in airspace in the vicinity of Duxford, Cambridgeshire during flying displays that are scheduled to take place there on 27th and 28th May, 8th and 9th July, and 23rd and 24th September 2017.

These events will be open to the general public and a large number of aircraft will be involved in high-energy manoeuvres during the air shows. The Civil Aviation Authority considers that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of Duxford Aerodrome on these days for reasons of public safety and this has been agreed with the Department for Transport.

In relation to regulation 3, the term “aircraft” includes aircraft as classified by Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Air Navigation Order 2016. It also includes, by virtue of article 23 of that Order, any small balloon, any kite weighing not more than two kilograms, any small unmanned aircraft and any parachute including a parascending parachute.
