The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Silverstone and
Turweston) Regulations 2017
Made - - - - 21st February 2017
Coming into force - - 15th July 2017
The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the
vicinity of Silverstone motor-racing circuit and Heliport and Turweston Aerodrome b y reason of
the gathering of a large number of persons at the British Grand Prix.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by
article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Silverstone and
Turweston) Regulations 2017 and come into force on 15th July 2017.
Interpretation
2. In regulations 3(1) and 4(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), between 0600 hours and 1800 hours on 15th and 16th July
2017, no aircraft is to fly below 3,000 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by—
(a) a clockwise arc of a circle having a radius of 3 nautical miles whose centre is at 520351N
0010056W, from 520427N 0010542W to 520112N 0010312W, and
(b) an anticlockwise arc of a circle having a radius of 2 nautical miles whose centre is at
520227N 0010544W, from 520112N 0010312W to 520427N 0010542W.
(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying in accordance with a clearance issued by
the air traffic control unit at Silverstone Heliport.
4.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2) between 0600 hours and 1800 hours on 15th and 16th July
2017, no aircraft is to fly below 3,000 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a
circle having a radius of 2 nautical miles whose centre is at 520227N 0010544W.
(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying in accordance with a permission issued by
Turweston Aerodrome air-ground service.
(b) In these Regulations Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).
