The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Manchester Arena) (Emergency) (Amendment) Regulations 2017

Coming into force with immediate effect

The Secretary of State has deemed it necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of the area specified in the Schedule to the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Manchester Arena) (Emergency) Regulations 2017( 1) (“the principal Regulations”) by reason of an emergency having arisen in that area.

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016( 2).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Manchester Arena) (Emergency) (Amendment) Regulations 2017 and come into force with immediate effect.

Amendment

2. The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Manchester Arena) (Emergency) Regulations 2017 are amended as follows.

3. In Regulation 2 for “2,500 feet” substitute “3,500 feet”.

4. In Regulation 3(b) for “the air traffic control centre at Manchester International Airport” substitute “the air traffic control unit at Manchester International Airport whilst making an approach to, or departure from, Manchester International Airport”.

5. In column 2 of the Schedule for “3 nautical miles” substitute “1.5 nautical miles”.

6. In column 3 of the Schedule, for “532933N 00 21 452 W” substitute “53 29 33N 002 14 52W”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Manchester Arena) (Emergency) Regulations 2017 ( S.I. 2017/665) (“the principal Regulations”). The amendment amends the altitude and lateral dimension of the restriction, the exception relating to directions permitted by the air traffic control centre at Manchester International Airport and to the format of the Position of centre of circle (latitude & longitude).

Full details of the amendment will be promulgated by NOTAM.
