The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Louisa Jordan Hospital, Glasgow) Regulations 2020

The Secretary of State has decided that it is in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of the Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, by reason of the establishment of the NHS Louisa Jordan Temporary Field Hospital at that site.

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(1).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Louisa Jordan Hospital, Glasgow) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 16th April 2020.

Interpretation

2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(2).

Restricted airspace

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), between 1200 hours on 16th April 2020 and 1200 hours on 14th July 2020, no aircraft is to fly below 2,000 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a circle having a radius of 2 nautical miles whose centre is 555139N 0041720W.

(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft—

(a) operated by or flying in the service of—

(i) Police Scotland,

(ii) the Scottish Air Ambulance Service, or

(iii) the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for the purpose of search and rescue, medical emergency or NHS patient transfer,

(b) landing at, or departing Glasgow Airport, the Police Scotland Heliport or NHS Louisa Jordan Hospital, Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, whilst under the control of the air traffic control unit at Glasgow Airport, or

(c) flying in accordance with the permission of an officer of the Police Scotland Aviation Safety and Security Unit.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in airspace in the vicinity of the Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, by reason of the establishment of NHS Louisa Jordan Temporary Field Hospital there between 16 April 2020 and 14 July 2020. Due to the likelihood of rotary aircraft activity associated with the field hospital, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of the site for reasons of public safety.
