And with more heat on the way, now's the time to escape the sweltering confines of city life and dip your feet in the sea. So why not pack your bags this weekend and head to a gorgeous sandy beach that's been branded one of the UK's very best

Birling Gap in Sussex is just over two hours in the car -or train, for that matter -and sits just south of the town of Eastbourne, a historically underrated seaside spot that this year has been served justice as it was named the UK's 'best seaside spot'.

If that wasn't enough, the town's been dubbed 'the UK's sunniest place', boasts an array of restaurants, vibrant architecture and a busy art scene.

And it town's aren't your thing and you're more of a country-lover, then make a 20 minute jaunt down to Birling Gap -stretches of golden sand, lapping waves, and fewer tourists that most beaches near London. While the Seven Sisters cliffs are an immediately recognisable sight, their grandeur has often overshadowed the beach at their base.
