EXTRADITION

The Extradition Act 2003 (Commencement and Savings) Order 2003

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 221 and 223(3) of the Extradition Act 20031, hereby makes the following Order:

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Extradition Act 2003...

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Extradition Act 2003 (Commencement and Savings) Order 2003.

(2) In this Order—

“the Act” means the Extradition Act 2003;

“the British Overseas Territories” means those territories listed in Schedule 6 to the British Nationality Act 19812.

This Order brings all of the provisions of the Extradition Act 2003 into force on 1st January 2004 subject to the following exceptions. All extradition requests received on or before 31st December 2003 will continue to be dealt with under the provisions of the Extradition Act 1989. Any post extradition requests made which relate to a person extradited to or from the United Kingdom on or before the 31st December 2003 will continue to be governed by the provisions of the 1989 Extradition Act.
