The M74 Motorway (Fullarton Road to the M8 West of Kingston Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 2012

Coming into force 28th December 2012

The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2), (3) and (3ZA) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 19841and all other powers enabling them to do so.

In accordance with section 17(3A)2of that Act they have consulted with such representative organisations as they think fit.

S-1 Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the M74 Motorway (Fullarton Road to the M8 West of Kingston Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 2012 and come into force on 28th December 2012.

S-2 Interpretation

Interpretation

2. In these Regulations—

“the M8” means the M8/A8 Edinburgh - Greenock Trunk Road;

“the M74” means the M74/A74(M)/A74 Glasgow - Carlisle Trunk Road;

“point 1” means a point 32 metres or thereby east of the point of intersection of the centre lines of the M74 and Carmyle Avenue;

“point 2” means a point 710 metres or thereby southeast of the point of intersection of the centre lines of the M74 and Polmadie Road;

“point 3” means a point 60 metres or thereby northeast of the point of intersection of the centre lines of Scotland Street and West Street,

and references to “the Schedule” are to the Schedule to these Regulations.

S-3 Speed limits

3. No person may drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding—

(a) 60 miles per hour on those lengths of road described in Part 1 of the Schedule;

(b) 50 miles per hour on those lengths of road described in Part 2 of the Schedule;

(c) 30 miles per hour on those lengths of road described in Part 3 of the Schedule.

S-4 Exemptions

Exemptions

4. No speed limit imposed by these Regulations applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 20113when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

SCH-1.1

1. That length of the carriageway of the M74 between point 1 and point 2, a distance of 4.9 kilometres or thereby.

SCH-1.2

2. That length of the M74 being part of the eastbound on-slip road from Fullarton Road, from a point 26 metres or thereby east of the east kerb line of the Fullarton Road roundabout (as measured along the northernmost kerb line of the on-slip road), eastwards to its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M74, a distance of 507 metres or thereby.

3. That length of the M74 being part of the westbound on-slip road from Fullarton Road, from a point 34 metres or thereby west of the west kerb line of the Fullarton Road roundabout (as measured along the southernmost kerb line of the on-slip road), westwards to its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M74, a distance of 537 metres or thereby.

4. That length of the M74 being part of the eastbound off-slip road to Fullarton Road, from its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M74, eastwards to a point 239 metres or thereby from that junction (as measured along the northernmost kerb line of the off-slip road).

5. That length of the M74 being part of the westbound off-slip road to Fullarton Road, from its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M74, westwards to a point 237 metres or thereby from that junction (as measured along the southernmost kerb line of the off-slip road).

6. That length of the M74 being part of the eastbound on-slip road from Cambuslang Road, from a point 93 metres or thereby east of the north east kerb line of Cambuslang Road (as measured along the northernmost kerb line of the on-slip road), eastwards to its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M74, a distance of 572 metres or thereby.

7. That length of the M74 being part of the westbound on-slip road from Cambuslang Road, from a point 103 metres or thereby west of the south west kerb line of Cambuslang Road (as measured along the southernmost kerb line of the on-slip road), westwards to its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M74, a distance of 600 metres or thereby.

8. That length of the M74 being part of the eastbound off-slip road to Cambuslang Road, from its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M74, eastwards to a point 270 metres or thereby from that junction (as measured along the northernmost kerb line of the off-slip road).

9. That length of the M74 being part of the westbound off-slip road to Cambuslang Road, from its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M74, westwards to a point 247 metres or thereby from that junction (as measured along the southernmost kerb line of the off-slip road).

2. That length of the eastbound carriageway of the M74 from a point 70 metres or thereby east of the intersection of the centre line of the outer eastbound carriageway of the M8 and the centre line of Seaward Street, to point 3, a distance of 755 metres or thereby.

3. That length of the westbound carriageway of the M74, from point 3 to a point 145 metres or thereby east of the intersection of the centre line of the outer westbound carriageway of the M8 and the centre line of Seaward Street, a distance of 660 metres or thereby.
