The Queen's forgotten relative who is a member of more than one Royal Family and teaches royal etiquette with Prince Charles' former butler

That is the case with one rarely mentioned relative of Her Royal Highness, who is both a princess of the British monarchy and the monarchy of the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Princess Katarina, who is London-born and lives in a flat in Earl’s Court, is what some would call a ‘double princess’

She is related to the Queen through her descendance from her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria. Her royal lineage to Queen Victoria is completely maternal, and she is the most senior female-line descendant of Victoria still living.

Queen Victoria's second daughter, Princess Alice, was the maternal grandmother of Princess Katharina's great grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. Through her mother’s side, she is also related to the Queen’s late husband, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Her grandmother, Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden, was Philip’s sister.

Her father Tomislav meanwhile was a prince of Yugoslavia. His dynasty, however, was exiled from Yugoslavia after World War II, with some fleeing to Britain to seek refuge, hence the reason why she was born in the UK.

Despite being a ‘double princess’, Katarina lives a rather normal life, or as normal as it gets for a royal. She makes her living by teaching royal etiquette and decorum classes with Prince Charles’ former butler Grant Harrold.
