This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have been left devastated by the death of Freddie, the 'weeing' seal who brought much hilarity to the show last week.

Last Monday, the presenting duo were joined by resident vet Dr Scott for an item on seal rescue, as he joined them from the banks of the Thames.

After the bulk of the segment went well, the seal could then be seen flat on its back having a wee, to which Scott exclaimed: "Oh wow he's having a wee on live TV"

Holly replied: "They always do, they always do," as the camera then went closer into the seal, prompting Phillip to remark: "Oh let's zoom in....marvellous!

"Give the animal some dignity...back off! Back off!"

As Dr Scott too struggled to contain his laughter, the camera cut back to the This Morning studio where Holly could be heard crying with laughter as she put her hands to her face, saying: "They always do it don't they!"

But Phillip and Holly's laughter turned to sadness on Tuesday after they learnt that Freddie had died after being attacked by a dog, with Phillip remarking: "this was so heartbreaking to wake up to."

Explaining what happened, Dr Scott joined them again to say: "On Sunday there was a photographer down there photographing the animal and the next minute a dog came careering out of nowhere, completely out of control and started literally attacking Freddie. Mauled all over."

Philip cut in to say there were some "horrible pictures" that the show had "absolutely no intention" of sharing with viewers.

He added: "We don't know the circumstances; the owner of the dog, we don't know what was going on...
