Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1 of the Ministers of the Crown Act 1975, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Transfer of Functions (British Museum (Natural History)) Order 1985.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on 18th March 1985.

S-2 Transfer of functions

Transfer of functions

2.—(1) There are hereby transferred to the Secretary of State the functions of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under section 10 of the British Museum Act 1963 with respect to the amendment of Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act.

(2) Accordingly, in section 10(2) of that Act, for the words from the beginning to there shall be substituted .

(3) This Order shall not affect the validity of anything done (or having effect as if done) by or in relation to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster before the coming into operation of this Order.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order transfers to the Secretary of State the power under section 10 of the British Museum Act 1963 to amend Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act presently exercised by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. The buildings for the time being described in Part II of that Schedule are the authorised repositories for the collections of the British Museum (Natural History).
