Political conferences focused on
ideas rarely attract a great deal of
public attention, but the ‘National
Conservatism’ conference that
took place in central London in May this
year was an exception. Before ‘NatCon’
had even begun, prominent British
newspapers and columnists speculated
about the signicance of numerous
sitting Conservative ministers attending
a gathering of the global radical Right.

Foundation and NatCon’s intellectual
founder, was clearly delighted with

The ‘National Conservatism’ conference that took place in London
earlier this year is part of a wider attempt to build a transnational
radical Right with ambitions to reorient politics both within and
between states, write Rita Abrahamsen and Michael C. Williams.
the extensive media coverage. On the
conference’s opening morning, Hazony said
that ‘something is happening in this room’.
In the days and weeks that followed,
dozens of articles and opinion pieces debated
exactly what that ‘something’ was and what its
implications might be. Understandably, much
of this discussion centred on the potential
impact of National Conservatism on British
politics. But this conference was also part of a
wider attempt to build a transnational radical
Right with ambitions to reorient politics both
within and between states.
