Lee Bowyer cut a satisfied figure after Birmingham City’s 2-0 victory over Derby County.

The Blues boss touched on the performance, the direction City are going in and Troy Deeney's impact.

Asked whether the hard-earned win over Derby proved where the club is going, Bowyer said: "“It shows that we are moving in the right direction. It shows that there is a togetherness on the field and at the end of the game, there seemed a real togetherness and appreciation between the fans and the players for their efforts.

"We are moving in the right direction.

"The fans, I believe wanted to show appreciation for the performances at the end of last season and to see some of the football we played at times.

"Our togetherness and fighting spirit is big and I know this club, I know what they want. The football side is a bonus but if you show that fight and determination for the shirt then they go home happy."
