CAMPUS THEFT. Thieves were active on the Nottingham University campus in Sutton Bonington in recent figures issued, stealing four bicycles.

Police do not know the exact dates of the thefts by unknown suspects.

Due to the non-attendance of a member, a vacancy has arisen for a member of Sutton Bonington Parish Council.

The vacancy may be filled by an election if the Council

receive a request in writing from ten electors. Otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

CHRISTIAN AID. While this year's Christian Aid activities in Sutton Bonington have been affected by the Covid-19 situation, local fund organisers are hoping they will have succeeded in raising a good amount of money for the so well deserving charity.

Volunteers were busy carrying out a door to door

delivery exercise of envelopes in which donations for the funds were invited. The envelope could be returned to the village Post Office or be sent by actual post to Cristian Aid itself. Alternately it is possible to donate online on the Christian Aid giving page.

FLYTIPPING WARNING. Residents in Sutton Bonington are being encouraged to report any suspected fly tipping incidents, as Rushcliffe Borough Council continue their get-tough zerotolerance approach to the problem.

Individuals who fly-tipped in the Borough over the past 12 months have been fined thousands of pounds.

The Council's message is clear to fly-tippers: "We will prosecute you whenever possible and can seize and destroy your vehicle connected with any offence."

Two transit vans were crushed after being linked to

fly-tipping after the Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Police took action.

Fridges were amongst items dumped in the Borough and in a further incident an offender was caught dumping items outside the gates of a Recycling Centre that was closed.

Enforcement powers allow vehicles linked with the crime to be destroyed once seized unless their registered owners prove the vehicle is their property within 15 days.

Leading Sutton Bonington Cricket Club member Dave Appleby - the captain and groundsman - has published

a fascinating dairy note blog that outlines his work and responsibilities in the run up to the current new season Under the title "The Diaries of Dangerous Dave" the comments are as a blog by Dave Appleby highlighting the in's and out's of two weeks of his pre season preparation, such as committee meetings, pre season rolling, balancing home life and much more!!

Popular Dave in his 20th season as Saturday captain, said he has been involved

with the cub since playing at under 13 level at the l village club playing in the South Notts Cricket league. He had voluntarily taking over from the previous groundsman who retired at 83. Originally a team mate helped him but he has now left the club, leaving Dave on his own..

He says he get wonderful help from his family, including from his brother, 11 year old daughter Lily, his step daughter Lexi, 13, his mum, who does the tack of being weed puller and much needed refreshment supplier, and occasional help from the club. "And best mention my partner Toni who really hates cricket and tries to tolerate me living down the ground most nights from April to September."

Dave says he work started in March and went on until they were ready to start the new season. and included lots of differing jobs such as grass moving , preparing the wickets, ground raking, and, at the start of the season, having the excitement of playing on the ground he had worked on it make look so good.

U3A MEETINGS. With lots of members from the village, Sutton Bonington residents who support the Soar Velley U3A activities, are anxiously waiting for the time they can have live speaker meetings again to replace the present ones which are being held using Zoom. The message from the group: Roll on the

return of usual meetings in due course!"

Details of the planned return to more like normal times are being provided to members so they are aware of hoped-for changes.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS THANKED. Volunteer drivers who transported more than 170 residents for their first vaccination against Covid-19 have been thanked by Sutton Bonington Parish Council.

The drivers transported residents from Sutton Bonington, Zouch and Normanton on Soar for their first vaccination and have since started the same arrangement for the second vaccination.

Parish council leaders say this "would not have happened without the hard work and commitment of Jean Corliss, Philip Stafford, Arnold Goodwin, Sheila Harrod and the Soar Valley Bus team."

PLAN APPROVED. Rushcliffe Borough Council have given the go ahead for planning permission for a two storey side/rear extension, a single storey front and rear extension with application of render and a ridge roof added to existing side dormer at 5 Willow Poole Lane, Sutton Bonington.

CYCLE TRACK SURVEY. An impromptu survey in Sutton Bonington to look at a suggestion of provision of a cycle track in the Soar Lane Woods brough responses form more than 100 people.

Parish councillor Kevin Jackson told members of the council that the idea was in its early days. The idea was put on Facebook aimed at testing local feelings and Coun. Jacksons said of the 108 responses that had been received 50 per cent were in favour of the idea.

ADOPTION PLEA. Do-it-yourself help is needed in Sutton Bonington where local people are being asked to adopt public benches in the village and provide them with some "tender loving

care".

Sutton Bonington Parish Council is asking villagers "to help in maintaining the overall beauty of our Village and the Benches that are scattered throughout Sutton Bonington in particular."

In total there are 18 benches in the village that " would benefit from sanding down and re-staining and some "TLC" !"

Members of the local community are being asked to "adopt"...
