After picking up one point from their first three games, it hasn't been the most thrilling start to the new Premier League season for Newcastle United as they currently sit 17th in the table.

A last-gasp equaliser from Southampton's James Ward-Prowse snatched three points from the hands of Newcastle in their last Premier League outing, and with the transfer window now shut, the Magpies' squad is now confirmed until January at least.

It was a relatively quiet transfer window for Steve Bruce's side as they enter the season with an almost identical squad to the team that finished the last, with not many players entering or leaving the club during the summer.

Joe Willock was signed on a permanent deal from Arsenal in the region of £20 million after his incredible loan spell at St. James' Park last season, and the Magpies also signed young Mexican striker Santigo Munoz on an 18-month loan from Santos Laguna -a deal which has gained much attraction for non-footballing reasons.

Christian Atsu and Yoshinori Muto both left on free transfers after spending a couple years at the club, whilst Florian Lejune joined Spanish side Alaves for an undisclosed fee. Andy Carroll and Henri Saviet are both still without clubs after being released by the Magpies in the summer.

So, what could happen in the rest of the 2021/22 Premier League season for Newcastle

Will Bruce's side be involved in another relegation battle, or will it be a more comfortable season for the Magpies

We simulated Newcastle's 2021/22 Premier League season

It was a tough season for Newcastle in the 2021/22 simulation, however there were two players that stood out and were outright the best players for the Magpies.

Callum Wilson managed to stay fully fit for the whole season as he played every game in the league under Bruce, and the striker managed to score 14 goals and grab six assists as he won Newcastle's player of the season award.

He won the POTM award five times in the season for the Magpies and was a match-winner on many occasions.
