West Bromwich man impersonated police officer with 'fancy dress' badge

Lee Davis claimed he was in a car park in Birmingham city centre when an unknown male approached and said 'do you want some fun'

The 27-year-old said he 'panicked' and reached for a fake police warrant card holder, containing his student identification, which he had recently used at a costume party.

But shortly after the man left the real police attended the scene and arrested him.

Davis, of Turner Street, West Bromwich, admitted impersonating a police constable at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 11. But he escaped punishment and was handed a six-month conditional discharge.

The incident occurred on December 13 last year.

Prosecutor Zulqarnain Saeed said: "Officers were alerted to an incident of a male purporting to be a plain clothes police officer. The male identified was located at a car park.

"The officers attended the location, spoke with the defendant and carried out a search. On his person they found a warrant card holder with a student card inside."
