CHAPTER clxiv.
An Act to authorise the mayor aldermen and burgesses
A.D.
1914.
of the borough of Wimbledon to purchase lands in and
adjoining the borough to divide the Saint Mary's and
South Park Wards of the borough and to make further
provision in regard to the electricity undertaking of
the Corporation and the health local government and
improvement of the borough and for other purposes.

HEREAS the borough of Wimbledon in the county of
Surrey (in this Act called "the borough") is a muni-
cipal borough under the management and local government of
the mayor aldermen and burgesses of the borough (in this
Act called "the Corporation") and the Corporation acting by
tiie council of the borough are the sanitary authority of the
borough with the powers and obligations of an urban sanitary.

And whereas it would be of great local and public advan-
tage if certain lands (in this Act referred to as "the Wimbledon
Park Estate") comprising one hundred and fifty-five acres or
thereabouts and situate as to one hundred and twenty-two acres
or thereabouts in the borough and as to thirty-three acres or
thereabouts in the metropolitan borough of Wandsworth in the
county of London were acquired by the Corporation:
And whereas the Corporation have entered into a provisional
agreement for the purchase of the Wimbledon Park Estate for
the sum of sixty-six thousand five hundred pounds and it is
expedient that the Corporation should be empowered to purchase
the same and that the use management control appropriation

and disposition of the "Wimbledon Park Estate should be
regulated and controlled in accordance with the powers and
provisions in this Act contained:
And whereas the borough is now divided into six wards and
the council consists of six aldermen and eighteen councillors
and it is expedient that the Saint Mary's "Ward and the South
Park Ward should each be divided into two wards and that
the number of aldermen and councillors respectively should be
increased to eight and twenty-four:
And whereas the Corporation are the owners of the under-
taking whereby the borough the parish of Merton in the urban
district of Merton and Morden and the urban district of
The Maidens and Coombe are supplied with electricity and it
is expedient to confer further powers upon the Corporation in
relation to that undertaking:
And whereas it is expedient to make further and better
provision in regard to streets and buildings in the borough and
that the powers of the Corporation in relation to the health
local government and improvement of the borough be enlarged
as by this Act provided:
And whereas it is expedient that the other provisions
contained in this Act be enacted:
And whereas the purposes of this Act cannot he effected
Without the authority of Parliament:
And whereas in relation to the promotion of the Bill for
this Act the requirements of the Borough. Funds Acts 1872
and 1903 have been observed and the approval of the Local
Government Board has been obtained:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted
and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty by and
with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
and Commons in this present Parliament assembled and by the
authority of the same as follows:

This Act is divided into Parts as follows: A.D. 1914.

Part IV.—Electricity.
Part V.—Public buildings baths and recreation grounds.
Part VI.—Streets and buildings.
Part VII.;—Watercourses.
Part VIII.—Sewers drains &c.
Part IX.—Infectious disease and sanitary provisions.
Part X.—Financial.
Part XI.—Miscellaneous.

The Lands Clauses Acts (except section 127 of the Lands Incorpora-
Clauses Consolidation Act 1845 and except the provisions with *lon of
respect to the purchase and taking of lands otherwise than by Clauses
agreement) so far as they are applicable for the purposes and Acts-
are not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby
incorporated with and form part of this Act.

In this Act the several words and expressions to which Interpreta-
meanings are assigned by the Acts wholly or partially incor- tlon*
porated herewith or by the Public Health Acts have the same
respective meanings unless there be something in the subject or
context repugnant to such construction And "in this Act unless
the subject or context otherwise requires
" The Corporation" means the mayor aldermen and bur-
gesses of the borough of Wimbledon;
'"'The borough" means the borough of Wimbledon;
" The council" means the council of the borough ;
"The Wimbledon Park Estate" means certain freehold
lands and land partly covered with water buildings
and hereditaments generally known as the Wimbledon
Park situate partly in the borough and partly in the
metropolitan borough of Wandsworth in the county of
London and containing one hundred and fifty-five acres
