The Alkali, &c. Works (Registration) Order, 1957

The Minister of Housing and Local Government (in this order called "the Minister"), in exercise of his powers under sections 9 and 27 of the Alkali, &c. Works Regulation Act, 1906(a), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby orders as follows:—

1. This order may be cited as the Alkali, &c. Works (Registration) Order, 1957, and shall come into operation on the 31st day of December, 1957.

2.—(1) The Interpretation Act, 1889(b), applies to the interpretation of this order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

(2) In this order "local authority" means the council of a county borough, a metropolitan borough, or a county district, or the Common Council of the City of London.

3. The register of works required to be registered under section 9 of the Alkali, &c. Works Regulation Act, 1906, shall be kept by the Minister.

4. The following particulars shall be contained in the register and in any application for a certificate of registration, that is to say—

(a) the nature of the work;

(b) the name, if any, and the full postal address of the premises at which the work is or will be carried on;

(c) the name of the owner of the work and his business address if different from the address of the premises;

(d) the name of the local authority in whose area the premises are situated;

(e) the date when the work was erected.

5. Application for a certificate shall be made by or on behalf of the owner of the work and shall be addressed to the Minister.

6. No certificate of registration shall be issued by the Minister unless application has been made in accordance with the preceding provisions of this order and the amount of the appropriate stamp duty chargeable upon the certificate has been received.

7. Where any change occurs in the ownership of a work, or in any other of the particulars prescribed by article 4 of this order, and written notice thereof is given to the Minister, any necessary alteration to the certificate shall be made by endorsement thereon.

8. The order of the Local Government Board, dated the 27th day of November, 1906(a), prescribing the conditions under which alkali, &c. works are to be registered is hereby revoked.
