1990 CHAPTER 14

An Act to make provision in connection with the re-admission of Pakistan as a member of the Commonwealth.

Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1. The provisions in the Schedule to this Act shall have effect, being amendments and other provisions consequential on the re-admission of Pakistan as a member of the Commonwealth.

S-2 Short title, repeals and commencement.

2 Short title, repeals and commencement.

(1) This Act may be cited as the Pakistan Act 1990 .

(2) The Pakistan Acts 1973 and 1974 are hereby repealed.

(3) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on 1st October 1989.

S C H E D U L E

Consequential provisions relating to Pakistan

Commonwealth Institute

SCH-1.1

1. In section 8(2) of the Imperial Institute Act 1925, as amended by the Commonwealth Institute Act 1958(power to vary the provisions of the said Act of 1925 if an agreement for the purpose is made with the governments of certain territories which for the time being are contributing to the expenses of the Commonwealth Institute) after ‘India,’ there shall be inserted ‘Pakistan,’.

(1) In the Schedule to the Imperial War Museum Act 1920 for the words ‘nineteen other members’ there shall be substituted the words ‘twenty other members’ and in the first and second columns of the Table in that paragraph after the entries relating to the Government of India there shall be inserted ‘1’ and ‘the Government of Pakistan’ respectively.

(2) The above amendments are without prejudice to the power to vary the said paragraph (1) conferred by section 1 of the Imperial War Museum Act 1955 .

3. In the definition of ‘Commonwealth force’ in section 225(1) of the Army Act 1955and section 223(1) of the Air Force Act 1955and in the definition of ‘Commonwealth country’ in section 135(1) of the Naval Discipline Act 1957after ‘India,’ there shall be inserted ‘Pakistan,’.
