In pursuance of their powers under Section 97 of the Agriculture Act, 1947(a), the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Secretaries of State respectively concerned with agriculture in Scotland and Northern Ireland (being the Ministers within the meaning of the said Act), with the approval of the Treasury, hereby make the following Scheme:—

Citation commencement and construction

1. This Scheme, which may be cited as the Agricultural Lime (Amendment) Scheme, 1951, shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1951, and shall be read as one with the Agricultural Lime Scheme, 1947(b) (hereinafter referred to as "the Scheme"), and the Scheme and this Scheme may be cited together as the Agricultural Lime Schemes, 1947 and 1951.

Amendments of and additions to the Scheme

2. The Scheme shall be amended as follows:—

Termination of spreading contributions

(i) Notwithstanding the provisions of the Scheme relating to contributions in respect of spreading lime no contribution shall be paid in respect of costs incurred or to be incurred in spreading lime delivered to an occupier on or after the date on which this Scheme comes into operation.

Procedure for obtaining contributions

(ii) The following sub-paragraph shall be added to paragraph 20 of the Scheme.

"(3) An application for a contribution shall be made to the Ministers within six months from either the date of completion of delivery of the lime to the occupier or the date on which this Scheme comes into operation whichever shall be the later and if an application is not made within the aforesaid time or within such further time as the Ministers may in special circumstances allow no contribution shall be payable."

Kinds of lime in respect of which contributions may be made

(iii) In addition to the kinds of lime referred to in paragraph 4 of the Scheme and subject to the provisions of paragraph 5 of the Scheme contributions may be made in respect of all forms of naturally occurring combinations of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate and of all forms of the oxides and hydroxides derived therefrom which are commonly used for the liming of agricultural land.
