CHAPTER xci.
An Act to confer powers upon the mayor aldermen
A.D.
1931.
and burgesses of the borough of Bacup in regard
to the running of public service vehicles and
to make further provision in relation to the
tramway and light railway water and electricity
undertakings of the said mayor aldermen and
burgesses and for other purposes.

HEREAS the borough of Bacup (in this Act called
" the borough.") in the county palatine of
Lancaster is under the management and local govern-
ment of the mayor aldermen and burgesses of the borough
(in this Act called " the Corporation "):
And whereas the Corporation are the owners of the
tramways in the borough and such tramways are at
present operated by the mayor aldermen and burgesses
of the borough of Rawtenstall in pursuance of an
indenture of lease dated the seventh day of July
nineteen hundred and fifteen which lease expires on the
twenty-third day of July nineteen hundred and thirty-
nine :
And whereas the Corporation are also the owners of
a light railway in the borough and such light railway
is at present operated by the mayor aldermen and
burgesses of the borough of Rochdale under the provisions
of an agreement dated the sixth day of March nineteen

hundred and eleven and made between the Corporation
and the said mayor aldermen and burgesses which
agreement will terminate on the ninth day of September
nineteen hundred and forty :
And whereas it is expedient to confer powers upon
the Corporation with reference to the running by them
of public service vehicles under and subject to the
conditions which are contained in this Act, and to make
such provision as is therein contained with reference
to the abandonment and discontinuance of the said
tramways and light railway:
And whereas the Corporation are the owners of
waterworks and are authorised by the Rossendale
Waterworks Act 1853 the Rossendale Waterworks
Amendment Act 1854 the Bacup Corporation Water
Act 1894 the Bacup Order 1897 the Bacup Corporation
Water Act 1898 the Bacup Corporation Act 1906 the
Bacup Order 1912 and the Bacup and Bury and District
Joint Water Board Order 1913 to supply water in the
borough and in part of the borough of Rawtenstall:
And whereas it is expedient to alter and increase
the rates and charges which the Corporation may
demand and take in respect of the supply of water by
them and to make further provision in regard to their
water undertaking :
And whereas by the Bacup Electric Lighting Order
1890 the Corporation are empowered, to supply electricity
for all public and private purposes within the borough
and it is expedient to make further provision in regard
to their electricity undertaking :
And whereas it is expedient to provide for the
establishment of a consolidated loans fund by the
Corporation and to make further provision with regard
to their finances and the application of the revenues
of their several undertakings :
And whereas it is expedient that the other provisions
contained in this Act be enacted :
And whereas the purposes of this Act. cannot be
effected without the authority of Parliament:
And whereas in relation to the promotion of the Bill
for this Act the requirements of the Borough Funds
Acts 1872 and 1903 have been observed :

Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent
of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in
this present Parliament assembled and by the authority
of the same as follows :

1.—(1)
This Act may be cited as the Bacup Short and
Corporation Act 1931. collective
(2) The Bacup Corporation Water Acts 1853 to
1906 and this Act may be jointly cited as the Bacup
Corporation Water Acts 1853 to 1931.

This Act is divided into Parts as follows : Division

The Lands Clauses Acts so far as they are Incorpora-

" The Corporation" means the mayor aldermen
and burgesses of the borough of Bacup;
