latest series of lectures covers as wide a range of topics
aa
ever: The
Doctrinc of Judicial Review, by the Chief Justice of the United States;
Brilnin’s Entry into the Common Mnrket; British Fisheries and
the
Common
Market (an excellent background
to
the latest Cod War with Iceland, which
was merely foreshadowed in the lecture); Factory Farming and
the
Law
(dealing with cruelty rather than the recent well-known rating law)
;
a
detailed and wide ranging survey of Family Property Law; Protection of
Minority Shareholders; Anticipatory Breach of Contract; the Recovery of
Carelessly Mistaken Payments; Comradely Justice in Eastern Europe (com-
rades’ courts in socialist legal system); and Historic Models of International
Law (a plea for radical reappraisal of the treatment
of
the
history of
international law
as
a subject of teaching and research).
The price, though high, is the same as that for the preceding volume but the
number of lectures has been reduced to ten.

THE
second edition is expanded and considerably improved. The major change
is
to
include land registration and there
is
now
a
section of over
100
pages of
land registration legislation and rules. Although much of the detailed legisla-
tion
on landlord and tenant
is
still omitted deliberately,
the
book
is
now
invaluable to students for teaching and reference. The Table of Statutes
judicially considered is particularly useful.

THE
UNITED KINGDOM,
Second edition.
[London: Institute

Advanced
Tins
is
a
very welcome revised and updated guide of the
1956
publication,
useful not only
as
an introduction
for
foreign lawyers, but also as
a
method
whereby English law libraries can check their basic material. Although pub-
lished in
1973,
much of the information, as admitted in the Preface, dates back
to
197CM1,
and this must be borne in mind when looking for latest editions
and newer works.
The chapter on The Common Market
is
parbicularly affected by this;
the section
is
useful, but new works are appearing on the market with
frightening rapidity.
