HEREAS the making of a Railway leading from the City
of Carlisle to the Cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow* and
to the Northern Parts of the Kingdom of Scotland\ would
be of great public Advantage, by opening an additional, certain, and
expeditious Means of Communication between the said Places, and
also by facilitating Communication between more distant Towns and
Places: And whereas the Persons herein-after named are willing, at
their own Expence, to carry such Undertaking into execution; but the
same cannot be effected without the Authority of Parliament: May
it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it
enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the
Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Com-
mons,
in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of
the same, That the several Acts of Parliament following, (that is to Incorpora-
